There is a right way to enjoy candy corn, the National Confectioners Association (NCA) reported, as the candy causes a love-hate split among consumers.

Thanks to a survey conducted by NCA to get to the bottom of this “burning question”, it was found that 33% of candy corn eaters nibble the narrow white end, while 16% start with the wider yellow end and more than half of consumers eat the entire piece at once.

In spite of whether the candy causes divisiveness or not, candy corn has proved the second most popular treat for the Halloween season, with the only thing scoring higher in chocolate, with gummy candy rounding out the top three in categories. Instacart recently revealed that, based on its purchase data, more specifically speaking, Reese’s Peanut Butter Cups proved the most popular Halloween candy, with Milky Way being part of the top ten.

The NCA reminded consumers that there’s even more reason to celebrate Halloween – as America’s chocolate and candy companies delivered on a commitment to help consumers manage their sugar intake by providing more transparency, choice and portion guidance options. Today, 85% of chocolate and candy sold today comes in packaging that contains 200 calories or less per pack, which includes individually wrapped products or multipacks with smaller packages inside.

“I’m thrilled to share that this year, the Halloween season is even sweeter because America’s chocolate and candy companies delivered on their commitment to helping consumers manage their sugar intake,” said John Downs, the President and CEO of the National Confectioners Association in a press release.

“Chocolate and candy are synonymous with Halloween, and parents can – and should – use this moment as an opportunity to educate their children on the unique role that chocolate and candy play in a balanced lifestyle,” Mr Downs added.
