Sweet Talk – Willy Metzger, Minebea Intec

Get to know Willy Metzger, Director Product Management, MarCom & MEA Region, Minebea Intec…

How did you end up in this industry?

To be honest, it was more of a coincidence – or rather, a stroke of luck. I’ve always worked in commercial roles and following a change of job, I eventually ended up at Minebea Intec.

What do you like most about your job?

For me, it’s the variety that makes it so appealing: of strategic issues to specific customer requirements. No two working days are the same – each one brings new, exciting challenges. I particularly appreciate the international nature of the business and the chance to meet such a wide variety of people from all over the world.

The most exciting thing, however, is working with customers to develop solutions that create real added value – and being able to draw on a portfolio as broad as Minebea Intec’s.

What is your favourite sweet?

Definitely: sour fruit jellies.

Who did you look up to as a child and why?

People who question things and think outside the box have always inspired me. This curiosity, along with the drive to continuously improve things and act in a consistently solution-oriented way, still shapes my day-to-day work today.

How do you define success?

For me, success means creating sustainable solutions – for our customers and our company. When technologies work reliably and deliver real added value, that is the benchmark for me.

How would your friends or family describe you?

As organised, solution-oriented and, at the same time, someone who likes to contribute new ideas.

What are you most looking forward to this summer?

I’m looking forward to spending time with my family and consciously switching off. Recharging my batteries with plenty of sun and warmth is just as important to me as finding complete peace and quiet in everyday life – because, in my view, that’s also a key foundation for professional success.

What other job would you like to try out and why?

A job in Human Resources. For me, HR is a key factor for success in any company. In a sense, this area forms the backbone of the organisation, shapes its culture and cohesion, and plays a major role in laying the foundations for sustainable development and long-term success.

Name three things you couldn’t do without.

My family, exciting challenges and variety in my job, and sporting activities with friends.

How do you like to spend a Sunday afternoon?

Ideally, being active outdoors – and then relaxing with the family around the barbecue at home. For me, it’s the perfect balance to a dynamic working week.
