Earthfirst adds home compostable films to portfolio

Earthfirst Films have added a line of certified home compostable films to its existing line of industrial compostable options. PHA, in combination with other biopolymers, are engineered for films with at least 85% new carbon content. Available in print, sealant and flow wrap films, these new options expand End of Life (EOL) environments as well as provider greater accessibility to a larger consumer base.

Home compostable films are greenhouse gas favourable to industry fossil-fuel based and naturally lower carbon footprint. The new films are built for performance within food, grocery, retail, quick service restaurant, stadium foodservice and other consumer market segments, with wide ranging sues.

“We are dedicated to bioplastic film innovation and passionate about advancing sustainability for a healthier planet,” commented Guenther Winnerl, Chief Commercial Officer at Earthfirst Films. “Our customers are transitioning to compostable films as part of their brand identity. Some are preparing for 2025 sustainability commitments and regulatory bills and our portfolio of films contributes to their objectives.”

Earthfirst’s films are DIN CERTCO certified for Industrial Compostability and TUV Austria Certified for home compostability. The films are also FDA compliant for contact with food.

Just last year, the company also launched compostable sealing temperature overwrap films to provide growing demand for sustainable films with a more positive environmental impact compared with petroleum-based films.

“Globally, our teams are dedicated to brands who are accelerating their adoption of sustainable films. Packaging transitions are increasing, and we fully support any incremental step to more environmentally positive  packaging” said Michael DuFrayne, President and CFO in the announcement. “We continue our commitment to sustainable film innovation.”
