Barry Callebaut celebrated the groundbreaking of its newest factory based in Brantford in Ontario, Canada. The factory will focus on sugar-free, high protein and other specialty chocolate products.

Earlier in July this year the company announced the location of the new chocolate factory, which is located inside the Northwest Industrial Park. They have plans to invest US$104million in the new plant, which will include both office space for corporate operations and chocolate processing. This marks the first new factory for Barry Callebaut in North America in 2008 and is expected to bring more than 200 jobs to Canada.

The factory will open in 2024 and was attended by Barry Callebaut executives including Chris DiMambro, Balaji Padmanabhan, Angie Kipper, Jin Kim and Steve Woolley. Brantford-Brant Member of Provincial Parliament William Bouma and Brantford City Councillor John Sless were also in attendance.

This follows on from the company’s new office and Chocolate Academy centre in Shanghai, where the company has been headquartered since 2009 as a key geographic hub for growth, innovation and digitalisation goals. The Chocolate Academy centres serve as platforms for chefs and artisans to showcase their talent and skills where they learn about new trends, techniques and recipes.
