Europe’s premier manufacturer of character and branded confectionery, Bon Bon Buddies, have been named as the only Welsh finalist in the Private Business of the Year category for the national UK Private Business Awards 2017.

The Blackwood based manufacturer were selected as a finalist among hundreds of nominees after PricewaterhouseCoopers – the sponsors of the awards – put them forward for their exceptional performance in the 2015/16 financial year. During this period, the confectioner demonstrated a combination of impressive business traits, which included economic growth and a strong market position.

Bon Bon Buddies, who produce and distribute a variety of licensed and own-brand products to over 40 countries across the globe, finished the 2015/16 financial year on a record-breaking high with a 13% increase in turnover to £44.4m and a whopping 125% increase in profit before taxation to £2.04m in its year ending 30th April.

In the same financial year, the business managed to hit their five-year target to make year-round sales, rather then seasonal sales, make up 60% of the business’ revenue.

Other finalists for the Private Business of the Year Award were selected based on their outlook, vision and strong long-term strategy.
