Cardbox Packaging has expanded its finishing capabilities at its Wolfsberg facility in Austria with the installation of an upgraded MK Duopress Power system from HEIDELBERG and MK Masterwork.

The investment is designed to improve automation, productivity and flexibility across the company’s production of premium folding cartons and labels for sectors including confectionery, food and cosmetics.

The MK Duopress Power combines hot foil stamping and die-cutting in a single production system, allowing multiple finishing processes to be completed efficiently while reducing the need for separate machine stages.

For confectionery manufacturers, the technology is particularly relevant to premium chocolate boxes, seasonal gifting formats and other high-value folding cartons where decorative finishes can play an important role in product presentation and shelf appeal.

Cardbox Packaging said the upgraded system will help it respond to increasingly complex customer requirements while maintaining consistent quality across both short and long production runs.

Combining finishing processes in one system

The MK Duopress Power is designed to integrate foil stamping, embossing and die-cutting within one production platform.

By bringing these processes together, converters can reduce handling between individual production stages while improving throughput and shortening lead times.

For confectionery packaging, this can be particularly valuable when producing decorated cartons that require precise registration between metallic foil, embossed elements and structural cutting.

Premium confectionery brands frequently use these techniques to distinguish products on shelf, especially for boxed chocolates, pralines and limited-edition ranges where packaging is a major part of the consumer proposition.

HEIDELBERG said the system is designed for high productivity while also supporting efficient job changes, giving packaging producers greater flexibility when handling multiple designs and formats.

The machine also includes automation features intended to reduce manual intervention and improve process stability during production.

Cardbox Packaging operates across several European markets and supplies packaging to customers requiring high-quality printed and finished cartons.

Its investment in the new equipment reflects growing demand for more sophisticated packaging finishes combined with shorter production cycles and greater manufacturing efficiency.

Investment targets premium packaging demand

The upgraded MK Duopress Power forms part of Cardbox Packaging’s wider strategy to strengthen its technical capabilities and expand its position in premium folding carton production.

For confectionery producers, the ability to combine structural and decorative finishing in one system can support the development of packaging that delivers both protection and visual impact.

Hot foil stamping remains widely used in premium chocolate and gifting applications, where metallic effects can help create a higher-value appearance. Embossing can add further tactile differentiation, while accurate die-cutting ensures cartons perform correctly during packing and distribution.

By integrating these processes, Cardbox Packaging aims to offer customers a more streamlined route from printed board to finished carton.

HEIDELBERG said the installation also demonstrates the role of advanced finishing technology in helping packaging manufacturers improve efficiency while maintaining the quality standards expected by brand owners.

The company continues to develop equipment for folding carton and label production through its partnership with MK Masterwork, targeting packaging manufacturers serving sectors including confectionery, food, beverages and cosmetics.

For Cardbox Packaging, the investment is expected to support both production growth and the increasing demand for complex, premium packaging formats across European markets.

The new system will strengthen the company’s ability to serve confectionery customers looking for decorative cartons that combine strong visual impact with efficient industrial production.
