International Confectionery speaks with Ant Wilson, Founder of Push Chocolate for its Sweet Talk in the May issue.
If you could change anything in the industry what would it be?
Getting rid of single use packaging which either cannot be recycled or cannot decompose quickly.
What three traits define you?
Desire to grow and learn, perseverance and kindness
What’s the coolest (or most important) trend you see today?
Vertical farms – if the costs can be reduced and be fully powered by renewable sources then it will help to reduce carbon emissions emitted by agriculture, especially transportation.
How do you define success?
Someone contacting me saying they’ve been struggling to find delicious vegan chocolate and that they love Push Chocolate.
What made you want to work for the industry?
Creating and selling something that I love, makes me happy when I eat it and is able to give back to the environment.
What would you most like to tell your 13-year-old self?
Do what you want to do, not what others say you should do.
If you could meet anyone, living or dead, who would you meet?
Albert Einstein to hear him explain Special and General Relativity as the ideas still make me go cross-eyed.
What’s your favourite aspect about working in the industry?
Ability to sell a product which makes people happy and aligns with their values.
What was the best piece of advice you ever received?
FEAR is False Evidence Appearing Real.
Where do you see yourself in five year’s time?
Going into a random shop in another country and seeing Push Chocolate on the shelves.
