Nestlé has unveiled a bold new phase of growth for its iconic KitKat brand, marked by a global Formula 1 partnership, expanding product innovation, and a unified marketing strategy designed to resonate with modern consumers.
The announcement follows a standout moment in January, when a chocolate Formula 1 car was produced at Nestlé’s San Sisto factory in Italy. Just weeks later, KitKat appeared trackside at the 2026 Grand Prix season opener in Melbourne – signalling the brand’s ambition to operate on a larger, more global stage.
With more than 90 years of heritage, KitKat remains one of the world’s most recognisable confectionery brands. Its enduring appeal spans generations, with families around the world continuing to share in the brand’s signature “Have a break” ritual. However, shifting consumer behaviours and expectations are driving the brand to evolve.
Tapping into a Global Opportunity
Nestlé’s new partnership with Formula 1 represents a significant milestone as its first-ever global collaboration with the motorsport brand. With an audience of 827 million fans worldwide, 12% year-on-year growth, and a strong 43% Gen Z demographic, Formula 1 provides a powerful platform to engage new and younger consumers at scale.
This move marks a strategic shift from localised activations to a unified global approach, enabling KitKat to deliver consistent messaging while amplifying reach and impact.
Expanding Across the Snacking Spectrum
The global treats market continues to grow, reaching $679 billion in 2024 – an increase of 2.4% year-on-year. At the same time, consumer habits are evolving, with shoppers moving fluidly between categories such as chocolate, ice cream, biscuits, cereal bars, and beverages.
In response, Nestlé is expanding KitKat into new formats and consumption occasions. The brand’s portfolio now spans a wider snacking spectrum, including high-performing tablet formats and innovative flavour combinations such as KitKat Nescafé Latte in the UK. These developments are designed to create multiple consumer touchpoints throughout the day.
Redefining the ‘Break’ for a New Generation
Changing lifestyles – particularly among younger consumers – are reshaping the concept of a break. In an increasingly always-on world, breaks are becoming shorter, more intentional moments of pause.
This insight has driven the launch of KitKat’s ‘Break Better’ platform, which encourages consumers to take genuine, uninterrupted breaks while reinforcing the brand’s timeless positioning.
Launched in late 2024, ‘Break Better’ is KitKat’s first truly global marketing campaign, rolling out across more than 60 countries. The campaign demonstrates how a single human insight can transcend borders and generations to drive brand engagement and growth.
