Today, Syntegon has announced they will unveil a range of cutting-edge sustainable technologies at Fachpack 2024, designed to help food manufacturers meet the forthcoming Packaging & Packaging Waste Regulation (PPWR) requirements. From 24 to 26 September, visitors to booth 1-257 in Hall 1 will have the opportunity to explore Syntegon’s solutions that enable a seamless transition to eco-friendly packaging processes, ensuring businesses remain compliant with the new regulations set to take effect in 2030.
“With the PPWR coming into force in 2030, sustainable packaging will transition from being a strategic image decision to a legal necessity,” said Torsten Sauer, Director of Sustainability at Syntegon. “Our mission is to support manufacturers with both advanced machinery and comprehensive services to ensure a smooth transition to PPWR-compliant packaging systems. We aim to prepare our clients for the new market dynamics by offering integrated solutions that align with regulatory requirements.”
At the forefront of Syntegon’s offerings is the SVX Agile vertical packaging machine, which is recognised for its exceptional efficiency. This machine features a patent-pending cross-seal drive, enabling it to achieve industry-leading output rates, even when utilising sustainable packaging materials like mono-material or paper. Depending on pouch size and film specifications, the SVX Agile can produce up to 300 pouches per minute, demonstrating that environmental responsibility does not necessitate a compromise in performance. Fachpack attendees will witness the SVX Agile in action as it creates pouches from 100 per cent recyclable mono-material, showcasing its resource-saving capabilities.
Sustainable materials also play a key role in other Syntegon exhibits. A bar packaging line, which includes the Pack 403 horizontal flow-wrapper and an innovative infeed module, is equipped with the paper-ON-form forming shoulder. This technology, available as both a new feature and a retrofit kit for existing Pack 403 machines, allows manufacturers to transition from plastic film to paper without sacrificing operational efficiency. The paper-ON-form forming shoulder’s compatibility with various paper types further enhances its adaptability.
In addition, the Kliklok ACE carton erector exemplifies Syntegon’s commitment to resource conservation. This compact machine can form up to 100 carton trays per minute using the lock-style method, which eliminates the need for glue. This process not only enhances the recyclability of packaging but also reduces energy consumption, maintenance, and material costs.
Central to Syntegon’s sustainable packaging solutions are its robust material testing and consulting services. The company offers tailored support to clients, guiding them through the transition to PPWR-compliant packaging. Syntegon’s in-house laboratories perform detailed analyses and material tests, determining the most suitable packaging materials and validating their performance under real production conditions.
Supporting this is the cloud-based Synexio software solution, available through Service Agreements. Synexio optimises system process parameters, with the Uptime package offering a “sustainability monitoring” feature that tracks power consumption and waste production, helping manufacturers to reduce their ecological footprint.
“We are continually advancing our system solutions to assist companies in making their packaging processes more sustainable,” added Sauer. “We are currently developing a new paper-ON-form retrofit kit for paper multipacks and will showcase samples of this new format at Fachpack, highlighting the future direction of sustainable packaging.”
