Bühler Introduces CompactMix for Precision and Felxibility

Designed to meet shifting demands in chocolate and confectionery production, Swiss technology company Bühler launches CompactMix. The new solution combines mixing and grinding technologies that deliver precision fineness, consistent quality, flexible production capacity, and high energy efficiency. From soft praline centers to coatings for snack bars and ice cream, CompactMix enables efficient manufacturing of confectionery masses for spreads, fillings, and various other applications, while ensuring consistent high quality.

The CompactMix system responds to several pressing industry challenges. With ongoing price volatility in cocoa markets, manufacturers are increasingly turning to chocolate alternatives that allow for a greater variety of formulations without compromising taste and quality. The global increase in demand for on-the-go products, such as filled biscuits, wafers, and snack bars, also requires production systems that offer the flexibility to handle a wide variety of recipes.

One system, endless possibilities

CompactMix brings together the proven ShearMix mixing system with a spiral agitator for fast, uniform mixing, and the Aurora ball mill to reduce particle size. This combination ensures optimal mixing and refining performance, forming the basis for CompactMix’s exceptional product consistency. The system delivers uniform textures with particle sizes below 20 microns, resulting in a smooth mouthfeel. It also handles everything from low-fat to high-fat recipes, giving producers full flexibility in chocolate mass production while consuming up to 30% less energy than conventional models.

Designed for operational efficiency, the new solution enables fast product changeovers with minimal waste and cleaning time under two hours. Its hygienic, fully enclosed design supports global food safety standards, and its modular scalability – from 400 kg/h to 3000 kg/h – makes it suitable for both small-scale and industrial production

“CompactMix gives manufacturers the freedom to craft premium chocolate spreads, fillings, and coatings with exceptional quality and consistency. Its flexible design supports a wide range of ingredients, encouraging creativity and innovation in developing modern confectionery masses,” says Skeljzen Nesimi, Head of Product Management Chocolate & Coffee at Bühler.

Beating the heat without losing a bite

In regions with consistently high temperatures – such as Africa, South Asia, and the Middle East – maintaining the stability of chocolate products during storage and transport is a constant challenge. Traditional chocolate melts easily, affecting both product quality and shelf life. CompactMix produces chocolate-based masses designed for thermal stability, using recipes that combine alternative fats and tailored textures. As a result, products have higher melting points and stronger structures, ensuring quality and delicious taste in warm-climate markets.

Smart control for perfect spreads, fillings, and coatings

Beyond its advanced processing capabilities, CompactMix is equipped with digital solutions that give manufacturers full control over production. Real-time monitoring, recipe management, and smart control features optimize consistency, reduce waste, and ensure every batch meets the desired fineness and taste profile. These digital tools also allow customers to adapt recipes to different consumer preferences, track performance, and maintain products at high quality, even under challenging conditions.
