Berry Global Group celebrates wins at EPAs

Berry Global Group, Inc. (NYSE: BERY), a global leader in packaging solutions, has been recognised with four wins at the 2024 Environmental Packaging Awards. Held at Park Plaza Victoria, London, the awards celebrated Berry’s innovative and sustainable contributions to the packaging industry, showcasing the company’s commitment to advancing environmental stewardship.

Berry secured a Gold Award for Sustainable Innovation of the Year, highlighting its groundbreaking reusable milk bottle developed for Abel & Cole’s Club Zero. This innovation allows the bottles to be refilled up to 16 times before recycling, offering a sustainable alternative to traditional glass bottles.

In the product-specific categories, Berry’s Entour polyethylene (PE) lamination film received a Silver Award in the Ambient Food category. The film enhances the recyclability of traditional multilayer films, aiding brand owners in transitioning to more sustainable packaging solutions. Another Silver Award was bestowed upon Berry’s Omni® Xtra+ film in the Chilled and Frozen category. This innovative polyvinyl chloride (PVC) replacement film is not only 25% lighter than traditional PVC cling films but is also recyclable and certified by RecyClass and Interseroh, aligning with European recycling guidelines.

The company’s innovative approach extended to the Alcoholic Drinks category, where Berry earned a Bronze Award for its 100% recycled PET (rPET) flat-pack wine bottle developed for Packamama. The bottle’s design, significantly lighter than conventional glass bottles, offers both aesthetic appeal and practical benefits, including easier recycling via standard kerbside collection.

Jean-Marc Galvez, President of Berry Global’s Consumer Packaging International division, expressed pride in these achievements: “Supporting our customers’ sustainability goals is central to everything we do at Berry. Our success at the Environmental Packaging Awards, across both rigid and flexible plastics, demonstrates our technical and design expertise, as well as the vital role that plastic can play in the transition to a circular, net-zero economy.”

In addition to Berry’s awards, the GoUnpackaged refill packaging solution from the Refill Coalition, which includes a bespoke 14-litre high-density polyethylene (HDPE) reusable container designed and manufactured by Berry, received a Gold Award in the Ambient Food category.
