International Confectionery Magazine gets to know Louise Monks, Owner of the Popcorn Kitchen
How did you get involved in this industry?
I graduated in Food Science and became a food development technologist, before transitioning into buying and then becoming a Sales Director for a blue-chip fine snacking provider.
What aspects of your job do you enjoy most?
I love owning a brand that enables me to be consumer facing; that pro-actively pursues regular new product development and which takes a clear sustainable stance
What would you like to do if you were to change careers?
I would like to work for B lab – a non-profit UK charity tasked with championing an overhaul outmoded, binary economic systems to support a truly inclusive, equitable and regenerative economy.
What would be the first thing you would buy if you won big on the lottery?
A house for by best friend!
Who did you admire growing up and why?
Margaret Thatcher! Love or loathe her this was a woman with a clear vision coupled with the strength of her convictions. Above all she clearly demonstrated that ordinary women could be anything they wanted to be if they worked hard!
What is your favourite sweet you make?
Pop at Home is the most successful category addition to Popcorn Kitchen. I personally love making and baking with this versatile, fresh, snack making kit offering both theatre and interactivity in spades; paving the way for a fantastic family home movie evening.
What is your favourite way to spend a Sunday afternoon?
Playing Golf (trying to play) but more quality time with my husband
Where do you see yourself in 5 years’ time?
I’d like to establish Popcorn Kitchen as a beacon for ambitious SME fine snacking stewardship which has built upon its tentative overseas success, maybe even Over the Pond as succeeding in popcorn’s spiritual home would be the golden ticket!
