In this exclusive Sweet Talk interview, we get to know the Founder of Wild Thingz, Fliss Newland
What attracted you to this industry?
I’ve always been drawn to the excitement, creativity and nostalgia that comes with confectionery. After working in the industry for years, I saw an opportunity to reinvent sweets—making them healthier without losing the fun and excitement they bring to both kids and adults.
What has been your proudest accomplishment?
Creating & launching Wild Thingz has been a dream come true. Seeing it stocked by leading distributors like Diverse Fine Foods, CLF Distribution, and soon on Amazon is incredibly rewarding. It’s exciting to know that our mission of bringing better-for-you sweets to the market is resonating with both retailers and consumers.
What’s your favourite kind of chocolate?
As a vegan, I love HIP Cookies no Cream – seriously good.
What’s your favourite part of your job?
I love seeing how excited people—especially parents and kids—get when they try our products. Knowing that we’re creating a product that’s not only delicious but also healthier and free of artificial ingredients makes it all the more rewarding. It’s about bringing joy back to sweets, without the guilt.
What is a skill you would like to learn?
I’ve been trying to persuade my boyfriend to do Salsa classes with me now for nearly 6 months!
What’s the best advice you’ve ever received?
Comparison is the thief of joy – and I really believe that.
What’s the most interesting place you’ve visited?
I spent over two year living in Kuala Lumpur (Malaysia), leading Mondelez’s Ecommerce Business for Malaysia & Singapore. KL really is the coolest city.
What three items would you take with you to a desert island?
Not sure if this is allowed, but my cat. Other than that, some good music, and rum.
What’s your favourite book or film?
Gladiator has to be up there for all time greats. Adored the Barbie Movie last year though.
Who or what inspires you?
Frankly anyone with ideas, purpose and passion.
