New fudge flavour

Fudge Kitchen have launched a new flavour as part of their ‘New Year, New Flavour’ campaign. To celebrate their 40th year as an artisan confectionery business, the company ran their New Year New Flavour competition, an annual event which is the chance for all six of their high street shops to compete, put their NPD skills to the test to create a brand new fudge flavour.

As a result of the competition, the winning flavour is rolled out throughout stores and on the company website. 2023 is a big year as it marks 40 years in the confectionery. As the company reflects, what began as a handful of fudge shops has now evolved into a fully-fledged artisan confectionery business with an extensive product offering, strong wholesale network and own label production for the UK’s hotels and department stores.

The New Year New Flavour competition took place on 16 January 2023 at Fudge Kitchen’s production site in Aylesham, Kent. Invited along were guest judge, Stefano Cuomo, CEO of Macknade Food Hall, to join the judging panel. The six flavours entered were Atomic Fireball Fudge, Red Velvet Fudge, Old-School Toffee Fudge, Sour Cherry Fudge, Jam Donut Fudge and Merry Berry Fudge.

After much deliveration the fudge flavour was announced as Old-School Toffee Fudge, created by Fudge Kitchen Canterbury. As the shop manager said, “It’s the flavour that made us famous, and the flavour that our customers miss. We’ve tweaked the original recipe so there are fewer ingredients to source, and we’ve used our skills and knowledge from many years of fudge making to reimagine an old-school classic.”

Runners up in the competition were Jam Donut Fudge from the Windsor store and Sour Cherry Fudge from the Edinburgh store. The winning fudge flavour from last year’s competition was Butter Pecan, which proved so popular it became part of their all-year-round mennu.

The Old-School Toffee Fudge is available online and in stores throughout February and is priced at UK£6 a slice. Other seasonal flavours available now include Salted Caramel Fudge, Butter Pecan Fudge and Clotted Cream Fudge. The shops also offer Fudge Making Experiences.
