GNT has added the paprika-based EXBERRY® Shade Vivid Orange to its plant-based colour portfolio, enabling manufacturers to achieve clean-label orange shades in confectionery, bakery, snacks and beyond.
The new colour is made from non-GMO paprika oil and is available as a water-dispersible emulsion as well as in an oil-soluble format. It has a high colour intensity that supports cost-effective low dosage levels and offers excellent overall performance.
It is made using physical processing methods with no chemical solvents. This means it is classed as a food ingredient rather than an additive in the EU and UK and can be labelled simply as “paprika oil”.
EXBERRY® Shade Vivid Orange is an ideal alternative to paprika oleoresin (E 160c) and Sunset Yellow for a vast array of applications including:
Gummies: Delivers vibrant shades and is easy to integrate into the base with good colour distribution. It offers good performance even at high process temperatures and low pH levels. It is also light- and heat-stable and does not require the addition of ascorbic acid.
Marshmallows: High colour intensity supports warm orange shades. Shade Vivid Orange offers good performance even at high pH levels. Ascorbic acid can be added to enhance stability under light conditions.
Baked goods: Provides bright orange shades to doughs for bakery items including biscuits and cakes. It continues to perform under high process temperatures and provides good stability over the shelf life.
Glazes, coatings and icings: Both the water-dispersible emulsion and oil-soluble formats can be used and are easy to integrate into the base with good stability over the shelf life.
Snacks: Shade Vivid Orange is well suited to extruded cereals while the oil-soluble version is ideally suited to oil coatings for snacks.
In addition to Shade Vivid Orange, the plant-based, sustainable EXBERRY® portfolio includes further orange options to suit different project requirements.
EXBERRY® Shade Sunstone Orange: A sweet potato and safflower concentrate in liquid form. It contains anthocyanin pigments and is ideal for applications with low pH levels.
EXBERRY® Shade Brilliant Orange: A pepper and carrot concentrate available in liquid and powder formats. It delivers brownish orange shades and is based on carotenoid pigments, which are pH-independent but can sometimes shift yellow in the presence of oil, high sheer and heat.
EXBERRY® Annatto OS Intense: An oil-soluble colour made from the seeds of the achiote tree. It has a very high colour intensity and is designed for use in fat-based food applications.
