Koa has launched its first cocoa juice to the West African market through its gateway Ghana. Since 1895, says the company, when the first cocoa tree was planted in the Akuapem Mountains in Ghana, there has always been a focus on the value of the cocoa bean for chocolate applications. The company’s interest rests the value of the whole bean.
Using innovative technology, Koa has developed a natural fruit juice and thanks to the use of the white cocoa pulp, has created additional income for cocoa smallholders and new jobs in cocoa growing communities.
It is celebrating another milestone as it launches a cocoa fruit juice Koa Natural in Ghana for the first time. The juice is produced from the white part surrounding the cocoa bean and comes with no added sugars, sweeteners or additives.
According to Koa, the juice contains minerals such as potassium and magnesium which have links to health benefits such as regulating heartbeat and ensuring proper function of the muscles and nerves.
The cocoa juice can be enjoyed on its own, or also as an interesting ingredient for cocktails, mocktails or savoury foods. The company said it worked with local and international chefs and the food and beverage industry to develop recipes to enhance the salty, sweet and beverage applications of the juice.
Koa Natural is produced from previously unused cocoa fruit pulp an as a result, the juice processing provides extra income to Ghana’s cocoa farmers as it uses additional product created from the cocoa pod that would otherwise be discarded.
