This platform is ensuring that all relevant players of both industries can not only network at the fairgrounds, but also digitally and remain up-to-date on current themes. The exhibitors will benefit from the chance to access new target groups and present their solutions to an even broader public.
Safety Measures
With the trusted safety and hygiene concept, #B-SAFe4business, ProSweets Cologne ensures comprehensive safety and gives access to trade fair participants who are recovered, vaccinated, or tested. In addition, with its new layout, which includes widening all aisles to at least 5.00 m, ProSweets Cologne is in an excellent position to ensure that distances are maintained at all times.
Accessing the trade fair grounds will require CH3CK. This means you have three options for accessing the trade fair grounds: Anyone wishing to enter the trade fair grounds must present appropriate verified digital proof that complies with the Covid digital certificate (EU DCC). Those travelling from a non-EU country, who therefore have no access to a European Union Digital Covid Certificate (EU DCC), but who have been vaccinated with a vaccine approved in the EU, will of course also be granted access to the trade fair grounds.

Sustainable Packaging and Digitalization
ProSweets Cologne will be placing the focus on “Sustainable Packaging” for the snacks and sweets industry. The industry is extremely interested in switching over to eco-friendly materials such as paper or recyclable mono films and related packing processes. The special show Packaging ‘Function meets Design’ will present packaging innovations that also meet the new guidelines of EU legislation. The focus will be on sustainable solutions, i.e., resource-saving, waste-avoiding, reusable packaging, and digitalisation. Pacoon, the leading packaging design agency in the DACH area for design and sustainable solutions and partner at ProSweets, presents the conceptual approach of an international ReUse system for packaging. The parcours shows the structure of the system and an overview of relevant transformation fields such as diversity, resources, and society, as well as existing and developing international systems. It will also show how products from the snack and confectionery sector can be managed within this system.
The Sustainable Packaging Institute (SPI, new partner of this year’s ProSweets Cologne, is a specialised institute of the Albstadt-Sigmaringen University of Applied Sciences with the research focus on “Sustainable Packaging Concepts”. The SPI has set itself the task of providing competent and holistic support to all players in the packaging industry along the entire value chain in the life sciences industry on their way to a more sustainable, cycle-oriented bioeconomy. At the special Packaging area, the SPI will present current research results and will be available to you on these and other topics relating to sustainable packaging concepts.
In hall 10.1, ProSweets Cologne will also offer guided tours of the DLG e.V. – Deutsche Landwirtschafts-Gesellschaft. They will give answers to questions such as what sustainable packaging concepts currently exist for sweets and snacks or how protection can be sustainable as possible and in line with consumers’ expectations. The tour will take visitors through the Special Event Packaging ‘Function meets Design’ and to exhibitors who are offering interesting projects.
New Technologies
Hardly any other industry introduces as many innovations onto the market as the sweets industry. The manufacturers try to arouse buying interest with new recipes, new ingredients, and exotic flavours. Visitors can experience live at ProSweets Cologne how flexible the machines have to be to enable this creative diversity on the sweet’s shelves. The exhibitors at the Cologne fair grounds are thereby focusing on intelligent automation technologies, which unite the highly competitive pressure and changing market trends economically with each other.
With a view to ProSweets Cologne 2022, it becomes apparent that automation and digitalisation continue to be important driving forces on the way to the efficient and sustainable production of sweets. The exhibitors are accommodating the demand of the industry to introduce new sweets and snacks onto the market in increasingly shorter intervals with machinery that enables fast format changeovers and ensures high performance in confined spaces thanks to cutting-edge technology. As such, they increase productivity and flexibility for ever smaller batch sizes – a trend that is ongoing at the Cologne fair grounds.
Event Zone Ingredients and New Product Showcase
At the new Event Zone INGREDIENTS in hall 5.2, our partner Innova Market Insights will present the four major, current trend topics of the industry. From Plant-based, personalization, product mashups to the importance of transparency, visitors can expect a wide range of information concerning the current and upcoming ingredient trends.
The New Product Showcase has established itself as an important attraction for all decision-makers. Exhibitors present products here that were created after the last ISM. The top innovations are selected by an independent jury of experts from industry, trade, and academia. In addition to the award for the best innovations, an extra prize will be awarded for the most innovative packaging at the special show – the ISM Packaging Award powered by ProSweets Cologne.
