Since 2007, Barry Callebaut has been expanding and investing in the Chinese chocolate and cocoa market. In the last three years they’ve set up new offices and Chocolate Academy centres in Beijing and Shenzhen.
Since 2009, the company has had its headquarters in Shanghai for its Greater Chinese business, as a “key geographic hub” for growth, innovation and digitalization goals. Situated by the Huangpu River in the heart of Shanghai, the new office is designed to be a comfortable, collaborative and efficient working environment according to the company, for its teams in management, sales, marketing, customer support and admin support.
“You and I will be so proud of our new office and Chocolate Academy centre in Shanghai. Shanghai is one of the greatest cities in the world. Anything and everything is possible here,” explained Jo Thys, President Asia Pacific at Barry Callebaut in a video release. “Barry Callebaut saw that spark in Shanghai and set up our sales office here 12 years ago. Since then, Shanghai has been a great base for our continued growth in China.”
He went on to explain the attractiveness of the new location from a customer and employees perspective, wanting their products to be closer to their Chinese customer base.
The company’s Chocolate Academy centres serve as platforms for chefs and artisans to showcase their talent and skills, learning about new trends, techniques and recipes. In the Shanghai centre, guest chefs including Meilleurs Ouvriers de France as well as experienced Cacao Barry technical advisors lead visitors through classes sharing expertise and know-how.
