Nestle Japan will be the first ever confectioner to launch a product that utilises Barry Callebaut’s ruby chocolate, as they have plans to roll out KitKat Chocolatory Sublime Ruby.
Nestle will sell the product in KitKat Chocolatory stores across Japan and South Korea in addition to their online stores in both countries from the 19th January.
The launch of KitKat Chocolatory Sublime Ruby is timed perfectly for Valentine’s Day, however, Nestle are only selling 5,000 units for a limited period for a cost of ¥400 ($3.60) each.
In addition, Nestle Japan are also set to launch a KitKat Chocolatory Sublime Valentine’s Assortment, which contains a ruby wafer for ¥1,800 ($16.18) for a five-piece mix and ¥2,400 ($21.60) for a seven-piece assortment. This will be available from the 1st of February.
Nestle ruby KitKat will use the ingredients from supplier Barry Callebaut’s ruby chocolate, which last year was heralded as the fourth type of chocolate after white, milk and dark.
The chocolate itself has a pinkish colour and a berry-fruity taste, however there are no colours or flavours added to the mix.
According to Barry Callebaut, the effect is derived naturally by isolating specific compounds in cocoa beans.
