Ishida to showcase the power of automation at PPMA Show

Ishida is set to demonstrate its cutting-edge technologies at this year’s PPMA Show. With food manufacturers facing ongoing challenges from rising raw material and energy costs, alongside persistent skills and labour shortages, Ishida’s exhibit promises to highlight the critical role of automation in enhancing operational efficiency, product quality, and food safety.

Among the highlights on the Ishida stand will be the top-tier CCW-AS multihead weigher and the innovative Fresh Food Weigher (FFW). These exhibits will showcase the versatility of Ishida’s weighing solutions, alongside the newly introduced IX-PD X-ray inspection system and the award-winning QX-500 tray sealer.

“With markets remaining competitive and manufacturers having to navigate complex legislative requirements, stringent retailer standards, and evolving consumer demands, the need for packaging equipment that performs flawlessly is greater than ever,” said Paul Hitchin, General Sales Manager for Ishida UK.

“Our presence at the PPMA Show will demonstrate our extensive capabilities across weighing, packing, and quality control. Our experts will be available to discuss specific automation needs and how our equipment can be integrated to provide comprehensive, ‘wall-to-wall’ solutions,” he added.

The recently launched CCW-AS multihead weigher series stands out for its ability to deliver the highest weighing speeds while maintaining nearly 100% accuracy. The range features advanced radial feeders, offering enhanced conveying power to boost speed and precision, reduce product giveaway, and increase Overall Equipment Effectiveness (OEE). Additionally, the CCW-AS range boasts a 20% reduction in energy consumption compared to previous models, alongside reduced noise levels.

Ishida’s IX-PD X-ray inspection system, a pinnacle of food safety technology, utilises new sensor and image processing advancements to achieve unparalleled detection sensitivity. This system can accurately identify low-density and minuscule foreign bodies, such as bones in fish fillets or stainless steel wires, without compromising productivity. It is particularly adept at detecting contaminants in scenarios where products overlap or stand up within a pack. Tests have shown near 100% detection rates for bones in chicken, diced meat, and sausages, significantly reducing false detections and supporting stringent quality control measures.

The Ishida QX-500 tray sealer, making its debut following its accolade at last year’s PPMA Awards, promises a 66% increase in cycle speed, a 44% reduction in weight, a 46% reduction in size, and a 50% reduction in energy consumption. Its sustainable design features highly efficient servo motor technology, minimising energy use and operational costs. The tray sealer’s enhanced thermo-performance eliminates the need for water cooling, further improving energy efficiency. Moreover, it ensures consistently high-quality seals, contributing to reduced food and packaging waste and significantly enhancing packing line productivity.

Also on display will be the 6-head Ishida R2-106 Fresh Food Weigher (FFW), specifically designed for the accurate weighing of sticky and bruise-sensitive products such as marinated meat, seafood, and cut fruit. The FFW incorporates belt feeders and anti-stick hoppers with scraper gates, minimising product build-up. Despite its application for challenging products, the FFW achieves less than 1% product giveaway and can reduce labour costs by up to three operators per shift, making it an ideal solution for space and height-restricted factories.

Ishida’s exhibit at the PPMA Show underscores the company’s commitment to advancing automation in the food industry, helping manufacturers overcome current challenges and maintain competitive advantages through innovative, efficient, and sustainable solutions.
