Confectionery Live is excited to announce the first of our speaker lineup; Kerrina Thorogood, Commercial Partnerships Director at Fairtrade Foundation will be speaking at the second edition of Confectionery Live, sharing key insights into deeper partnerships with businesses to bring about change for cocoa farmers.
Kerrina featured as our Big Interview in the January issue of International Confectionery Magazine, where she spoke about the importance of these partnerships to support cocoa farmers, such as major UK retailer Waitrose’s conversion to 100% Fairtrade cocoa across their entire confectionery range.
The ethical sourcing of cocoa was a big talking point in the last edition of Confectionery Live and January – for this edition, in line with the theme, insights and discussion of the cocoa sector will centre around how it can be transformed into a more sustainable business.
In her presentation, Kerrina will discuss the range of prevalent issues facing cocoa farmers such as widespread poverty, deforestation, gender inequality, child labour and forced labour. She will detail how Fairtrade is working with partners to make a difference and effect change.
Using examples from partnerships with brands and retailers, Kerrina will address how they are addressing these key issues and partnering with businesses to achieve sustainability goals.
