Boosting sweet and savoury snack recipes with Cargill’s ingredients & expertise
The snacking industry is shifting from “convenience only” to sustainability and holistic health. It comes as consumers focus more on labels and nutritional content, which is creating opportunities for healthier snack bars. At the same time, they still seek out enjoyment through sensorial sensations, new formats, and indulgent concepts.
Cargill’s Food Solutions can cover up to 45% of a protein bar’s weight* and up to 60% of the weight in coated nuts.* In this way we are enabling trend-leading innovations with our extensive snack solutions portfolio and full formulations approach.
Our versatile portfolio caters to various snack categories, including snack bars, with ingredients like syrups, oils, salt, chocolate, starches, and humectants. We also offer enrichment options like choline in lecithin, and pea protein.
At Cargill, we’re transforming consumer insights into tailored, bite-sized innovations, creating snacks that combine functionality and taste. Our full formulations align with consumer demands for exceptional taste, and performance. By blending insight, creativity, and technical precision, we’re enabling you to keep pace with evolving trends.
Our expertise, your ideal combination
Combining Cargill’s extensive ingredient portfolio, technical expertise, and holistic recipe approach enables the rapid development of innovative products that meet any functional and sensory need. This keeps brands ahead of trends and meets consumer demands with precision and speed.
To showcase our capability as a key partner for snacks & cereals, our experts have developed two sets of on-trend prototypes using our portfolio and expertise. It’s all about transforming consumer insights into bite-sized innovations.
Sweet snacks
- Better built protein bar
- Protein performance bar
- Zero added sugar cereal bar
- Elderflower kefir sandwich bar
- Date & nut delight bar
- Compound coated bar
“Creating plant-based protein bars is challenging, since these proteins harden a lot more than in the case for dairy-based proteins – which impacts shelf-life,” says An Van-Meerbeeck, Senior Application Specialist, Snacks & Cereals. “Through the careful formulation and application of our ingredients, we have been able to overcome this challenge. For example, sorbitol or glycerol can maintain the softness of the bar,” she adds.
Savory snacks
- Sodium light potato chips
- Seaweed and wasabi crisp ball
- Clean eating tortilla chips
- Coated salt-reduced pumpkin seed snack
“We took the trends that we saw on the marketplace, such as salt reduction and new texture experiences, and tried to transform these into applications that fit within these trends by relying on our formulation know-how,” An explains. “For example, the application of Alberger® salt [uniquely-shaped crystals that enhance the consumers’ salty flavor experience when the potato chips hit their tongue] can deliver real progress in salt reduction, while the crux of our portfolio and expertise enables to experiment with different textured coatings for a true sensory experience,” she adds.
