Rebel Chocolate, a producer of high protein chocolate based in Glasgow, has been nominated for an innovation award at this year’s SME Business Awards.
The company, which was founded in 2017 by Neil Robson (pictured above), is seeking to offer healthier chocolate with the philosophy of ‘minimising the bad and maximising the good’. As a result, its chocolate products contain less sugar, more cocoa (the milk chocolate containing an unusually high 57% cocoa) and 25% protein.
As well as the high cocoa content, Rebel further improves the nutritional profile by enriching the chocolate with lactose-free whey protein isolated milk. The chocolatier also uses lactose-free whole milk powder, meaning that the finished product boasts lactose-free credentials.
The SME (Small Medium Enterprise) Awards recognise businesses of 250 employees or less that are responsible for driving innovation and competition in a variety of economic sectors. This year’s ceremony takes place on March 28 at the Crowne Plaza hotel in Glasgow.
