Winning this international award with Yummy Super Sour is quite a recognition for the Dutch manufacturer, who became originally successful in producing wafer paper sheets and rolls for the baking and confectionary industry. Today the global market leader in edible paper is producing more than one million kilograms of wafer paper per year. But that doesn’t hold Wouter Smits, Managing Director at Primus back to stop innovating. The global candy market is valued at € 200 billion while candy paper business is worth € 20 million, that is only 0,01%. The objective of Primus is to lead the market from 0,01% to 0,1% which should be possible based on the feedback as received at the ISM.
“We are extremely proud that Yummy Super Sour has won the award for Best New Product of 2025 at the ISM. This international recognition highlights our team’s hard work and dedication to innovation and reflects our capabilities to listen to our customers and develop exactly those propositions that they need. We are excited to expand our candy paper category with selected partners in the growing candy market, both with our own brand as via private labels.” Said Wouter Smits, Managing Director at Primus Wafer Paper.
The next Super Sour Hero
Yummy Super Sour is the newest addition to the candy paper family, following up the successful introduction of Yummy Money, Yummy Doodles and Yummy Jaws. Yummy Super Sour is a starch-based piece of wafer paper that is coated with sugar and sour. For the colours and flavours, only natural ingredients are being used. Instead of most candy, Yummy Super Sour is made from potato starch, which is why it is 100% vegan, gluten-free and allergen free. The paper melts in your mouth leaving that great taste, a sour enthusiast could only hope for. Without the sugary jelly-like residues that are left when you eat sour mats, gummy bears and alike.
